A Schulz & Fischer sterling silver trompe l'oeil palette and easel-form pen stand, Bridalveil Fall, Yosemite

6'' H x 9.5'' W x 7.25'' D, 20.5 oz

  • Provenance: Provenance: Property from a Florida Collection
  • Notes: Note: William Schulz and Emil Fischer founded their firm in 1868. They developed their business to become the main competition to San Francisco's premier silversmith, William Keyser Vanderslice. Schulz and Fischer acquired instant fame in 1869 by engraving the two gold spikes used in the ceremonial completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad. The company was renowned for ''...superior engraving, original designs and fine work'' - ''Silver in the Golden State'', the Oakland Museum, 1986, p. 13. It is interesting to note the spelling of the name of the waterfall on the stand. The single word Bridalveil combined with the singular form of 'Fall' is unique to the waterfall at Yosemite. The two word, plural spelling is used to identify no fewer than 36 different waterfalls in 8 different countries
  • Condition: Good condition overall. Very nicely made. Decoration well executed. General light marks, scratches, rubbing and tarnishing commensurate with age and use. With a slight depression to center of pallet at joint of stand. With a circular tube to underside of top- possibly to hold a chain for utensil. AS-IS. ALL SALES FINAL
