Director - Fine Art

Moran’s is seeking a Director of Fine Art with an area of specialty in any genre of art to join our diverse and dedicated team. This position will be responsible for business development, providing specialist opinion, conducting valuations, generating fine art consignments for auction, overseeing a team of junior and senior specialist and cataloguers. The Director will ensure that the department maintains the highest standards and meets budgetary requirements while building relationships with buyers and consignors.

DETAILS

  • Generates business for the department by evaluating property, establishing auction estimates, and preparing proposal documents
  • Responsible for creating strategies to encourage departmental growth
  • Train and guide team members and inform best practices in pricing, negotiation, and client outreach
  • Oversees departmental email & phone inquiries and walk-in valuations
  • Participates in the catalogue creation process: Layout, content proofing, and overall design strategy for specific sales and assists other specialists when needed
  • Oversees cataloguing, research & authentications, writing essays, and condition reports

Public Relations Manager

We are looking for a Public Relations Manager to join our team. The Public Relations Manager will design and implement marketing strategies that cultivate our relationships with media, engage our target audience and boost our brand awareness under the direction of the Marketing Director.  If you enjoy writing effective press releases, building online communities, and coordinating events, we would like to meet you. You will use your creative ideas to drive PR and Social Media initiatives that will bring long-term success by elevating the John Moran brand. You’ll coordinate with Marketing Director to maximize brand consistency in all advertising efforts. Ultimately, you will promote and maintain a positive image of our company, while ensuring strong online and offline brand presence.

  • Develop public relations strategies consistent with Company brand that highlights our products/servicing including current and upcoming auctions, previews, and special events
  • Develop and produce high-quality, informative, and interesting press releases, press kits, and related materials

Art Handler

This position is responsible for the proper storage and movement of all property while maintaining warehouse procedures and organizational standards.  Property movement includes but is not limited to: Packing and loading property for transport following best practices in property handling procedures; setup and takedown of antique & modern furniture; installation and de-installation of fine art; moving and preparing items for photography; setup & breakdown of previews, auctions, clinics & special events.

In addition to having prior art handling experience and supervisory experience, the individual must have the skills and qualifications to successfully achieve stated goals:

DETAILS

  • Receive incoming shipments by checking condition and moving property to safe storage locations while maintaining established inventory and storage procedures
  • Travel to client locations and oversee property pickup and deliveries
  • Unload/load trucks while maintaining proper paperwork & inventory procedures
  • Unpack / pack artwork & fragile items carefully while maintaining proper inventory procedures
  • Assist photography by preparing and moving property onto and off of photo sets, returning property to warehouse inventory locations
  • Setup previews, auctions, and events
  • Assist customers during previews
  • Assist customers with pickup and delivery of items while maintaining proper inventory and release procedures ensuring correct and complete deliveries
  • Maintain company security procedures and standard operating procedures

Qualifications:

  • 1-years’ experience handling fine art or antique furniture desired
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including: lifting, pushing, pulling items using proper lifting/moving techniques – minimum weight lifting capability of 40 lbs
  • The ability to safely lift and maneuver large furniture items with the appropriate furniture moving equipment, and with assistance from other staff as needed
  • Ability to drive and operate up to 26’ commercial moving trucks
  • Ability to utilize appropriate lifting and moving equipment (i.e., pallet jack, hand truck, etc.)
  • Forklift certification or ability to pass a forklift certification
  • Basic PC computer skills including ability to use Microsoft Outlook
  • Ability to work overtime, as required, to meet auction schedule deadlines

Jr. Photographer

This part-time position will photograph property using both studio traditional strobe lighting and the Ortery photo booth. He or she will also assist full-time photographers by creating and managing photo lists, move property to and from photo sets as needed ensuring that photographers are continually supplied with product to shoot, and assist photographers with equipment and studio lighting. Additional duties include Retouching and color correcting images, manage files and upload images to company databases, assist in the maintenance of studio equipment. This position has the potential to grow to a full-time position depending on the company’s needs and the candidate’s performance.

In addition to assisting in the performance of all aspects of studio and onsite photography, the individual must have the skills and qualifications to successfully achieve the following goals:

I.      Shooting

  • Shoot product photographs for printed catalogues and website
  • Properly light property in studio, offsite and in situ environments
  • Safely handle property on and off set
  • Follow established dept. standards and best practices as they relate to each sale category

II.   Assisting

  • Assisting photographers with setup and breakdown of studio equipment.

Preview Staff

John Moran Auctioneers is seeking Individuals interested in fine art, jewelry and collectible furniture & decorative arts to join our team as a member of preview staff.

This is a part-time, as needed position that will participate in the auction process by helping clients locate property during previews as well as providing assistance throughout the auction process during sale day.

This is the perfect position for students, someone who is looking to gain experience in the auction industry, anyone who enjoys being around art and collectibles, or those looking to occasionally supplement their income.

DETAILS

  • Greet clients and help locate property on gallery floor
  • Ensure property safely handled and stored during preview
  • Register bidders’ pre-sale, participate in the auction process and assist with pick-ups post-sale
  • Assist with sale setup as needed
  • Assist with special projects as needed (sorting, filing, making calls, etc.)
