Circa 1920, the lamp designed by Fritz Albert, the base designed by Fernand Moreau (1853 - 1920), modeled as an Egyptian maiden holding aloft a standard and leaning against a stepped pillar decorated in relief with geometric patterns and an owl, over a square tapering pedestal decorated in relief with an imaginary townscape and figures, overall. est:$5000/7000. Note: A similar lamp and pedestal with white glaze was sold by Skinner, March 27, 2010, Lot 64. Skinner's catalogue states that they were ''purportedly'' designed for Midway Gardens in Chicago. A similar lamp, also white-glazed, without pedestal, was sold by Rago, April 2008, Lot 78A, and listed as ''from Midway Gardens''. This massive entertainment complex was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1913 - 14 and demolished in 1929. Sculptor Fernand Moreau, a native of France, was a teacher at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1904 he joined Gates Potteries, where Fritz Albert was the factory's chief modeler. Albert and Moreau both moved on to the Northwestern Terra Cotta Company sometime after 1906. The two also designed for Teco Pottery.   • Condition: The lamp alone: 29'' H. The base alone: 45.25'' H. General marks, scuffs, rubbing and scratches. The painted finish rubbed overall. Several scattered small chips and abrasions, especially on corners and along edges, the largest a shallow chipped loss to corner of base of lamp (.25'' x .25''), and a shallow chipped loss to base of pedestal (.5'' x .5''). Wired for electricity. Lacking lamp fixture.
