10.75'' H x 8.5'' W x 4.75'' D

  • Provenance: Property of an Estate, Bel Air, CA
  • Notes: Paul Scheurich, an American-born artist who emigrated to Berlin in 1900, began working for Meissen in 1913, eventually sculpting eighty-seven figures for the company over twenty years. He modeled five figures based on characters in the ballet ''Le Carnival'', which was created in 1910 for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, with choreography by Mikhail Fokine to music by Robert Schumann. The first performance in Berlin, featuring sets and costumes by Bakst, was in May 1910, followed by others in 1912 and 1914. ''Le Carnival'' became the most popular Ballets Russes production in Berlin, occasioning the models by Meissen
  • Condition: Overall good condition. An expertly executed restoration to Herlequin's right shoe bow, and a few further minor expert restorations to Columbine's crinoline flounces (the restorations not visible to the naked eye).
