83'' H x 23'' W x 12'' D

  • Notes: Note: Baltahzar Lieutaud (French 1720-1780), one of the most important cabinetmakers to specialize in clock cases, was the son of the ebeniste Charles Lieutaud, clockmaker and part of the privileged enclos of Saint-Jean de Latran, and the grandson of Francois Lieutaud, an ebeniste from Marseilles. Balthazar Lieutaud was received as a maitre on 20 March 1749 and is known to have established himself in the clockmakers' quarter on the Ile de la Cite by 1750, first in the rue de la Pelleterie, and later in the rue d'Enfer. He worked with celebrated clock-makers that included Balthazard, Voisin, Lepaute and Robin, and with bronziers such as Caffieri, Roy and Grimpel. His clocks and regulators are held in the collections of the Versailles Museum, the Frick Collection, the Wallace Collection, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and the Metropolitan Museum, New York, and many others
  • Condition: Structurally sound. Nicely made. Dial possibly and movement probably associated. Dial with rubbing to surface overall. Mounts of case rubbed and dirty- largely lacking gilding. Veneer cracking in areas. With areas of overpainted restoration, replaced moldings and re-veneering, particularly to top and bottom of case and bottom of hood. Back of hood open. Lacking pendulum and weights. No key. Movement appears intact- currently not operable. AS-IS. ALL SALES FINAL
