A German Meissen "Count Brühl's Tailor" figural group
Late 19th/early 20th century
Crossed swords to bottom
Depicting Count Brühl's tailor holding shears and carrying tailor's accouterments with two kids on his back riding a goat clutching an iron in his mouth
8.25" H x 7" W x 3.125" D

Notes: Count Brühl was named one of the best-dressed men of his day and his tailor wanted some of the credit for this distinguished honor. As a reward, his tailor asked to dine at court. Count Brühl instead commissioned a centerpiece depicting the tailor riding a goat for the king's table as a way for the tailor to "dine" with the king. The popularity of the figure grew from there, resulting in the present version.

  • Condition: Overall good condition with scattered rubbed wear. Issues include but are not limited to: one goat's ear broken off, the tip of the figure's belt broken off, and possible overpaint to the figure's shoe.
