14'' W

  • Notes: Note: In an article dated October 22, 1876, the New York Times reported that the whaling bark ''Florence'' arrived in San Francisco on October 21st from the Arctic Ocean with 190 men aboard, ''being part of the crews of the Arctic whaling fleets, twelve of which she reported lost in the ice, with a portion of the crews.'' The Florence escaped the calamity in late August when it ''drifted up to Cape Smith and got under the lee of the grounded iceberg.'' On Septemeber 13th the Florence managed to get underway, carrying parts of the crews from the other vessels. Another vessel escaped, bound for Honolulu, but several crewmen were left behind in the Arctic and were presumed to have perished
