  • Provenance:
The Collection of Gary Diamond, Los Angeles, CA
  • Notes:
According to information on the internet, "H.C. Miner Litho Company of New York was started in 1896 and operated by H.C. Miner and his son H.C. Miner Jr. They were reorganized in 1908 with a new president, Hugo Zigfield and continued operation until 1935. They were primarily used by United Artists and Fox for their lithography work."

"Riders of the Purple Sage" is a 1931 American Western movie based on Zane Grey's 1912 novel of the same name. This lot advertises the Fox Film Corporation version directed by Hamilton MacFadden. The third of five screen versions, it was also the first sound version.
  • Condition: Overall good appearance. Wide (possibly full) margins, and the colors fresh. Three unobtrusive horizontal and one unobtrusive vertical flattened creases through the image, likely attendant with the original storage, mailing, and/or transport of the sheet to the movie houses. There are occasional very skillful, unobtrusive touch-ups attendant with these flattened creases, primarily visible under raking light. An unobtrusive, pinhead-sized insect carcass affixed to the inside of the glass protecting the green ink at lower center. The margins appear to be entirely overpainted with cream pigment, visible under raking light. The sheet is backed with either paper or canvas, as mentioned, and is framed floating, hinged to the back mat in places from the verso of the margin edges. Not examined out of the frame.

    Framed under glass: 43" H x 29" W x 2" D
