  • Provenance: Chang Ming-K'o (1829-1908)
    Dr. Paul Berry
The Collection of Walter and Nesta Spink, Ann Arbor, MI, acquired from the above by 2000
  • Literature: Osvald Siren, "Chinese Painting: Leading Masters and Principles," Volume VII (New York: The Ronald Press Company, 1958), cf. 437.
  • Notes: This lot is accompanied by copies of notes handwritten in Chinese and English for Walter Spink by other scholars about this album's creation and prior ownership.
  • Condition: Overall good condition. The colors fresh. As mentioned, the sheets are mounted to silk-bordered boards in an accordion format, as issued. Roughly half of the accordion boards have detached from one another along the outermost vertical edges, however, this does not affect the actual paintings. Occasional and very minor surface soiling and/or scattered unobtrusive rice-sized (or smaller) areas of old insect damage, all of which have been touched-in with watercolor. The blue fabric-covered boards outer case with surface soiling and wear commensurate with age and storage.

    Overall: 7.5" H x 8.25" W x 1.25" D

Condition reports are offered as a courtesy and are typically published in Moran's catalogue or can be made available upon request. The absence of a condition report does not imply that an item is free from defects or restoration, nor does a reference to particular defects imply the absence of others. Buyers are responsible for determining to their own satisfaction the true nature and condition of any lot prior to bidding. Though buyers are not legally required to inspect lots prior to purchase, failure to do so may constitute a waiver of complaint that an item was not delivered in a condition equal to the existent condition at the auction.
