Tiffany Studios bronze ''Black-eyed Susan'' lamp

22 H x 16 Dia.

  • Provenance: Provenance: Property belonging to the Conservatorship of the Collection of Colonel Paul and Alice Deems, Los Feliz, CA
  • Literature: Literature: This model shade is illustrated in E. Neustadt. The Lamps of Tiffany. New York: Fairfield Press, 1970, p. 88, fig. 126
  • Notes: Note: While the shade is not numbered, an identical shade illustrated in the Tiffany Album is #1447. A nearly identical lamp, with yellow ground to shade, sold Sotheby's, New York, 7 June 2002, lot 473 ($35,850).As Dr. Neustadt points out in his entry on the Black-eyed Susan shade, this design is a culmination of efforts to make floral and foliate elements the dominant motifs in the look of the leaded shade. The only unbroken geometric band is that at the top of the shade, the rest of the ground is strewn with long stems, twisted leaves and bent petals. It is one of the first designs in a great series, particularly mastered by Tiffany designer Clara Driscoll, where flowers are the primary focus
  • Condition: General light marks, scratches and rubbing to surface overall, commensurate with age. With cracks to approximately five of the larger geometric glass panels and to approximately 20 of the smaller petal and foliate shaped panels. Top cap replaced. Wiring should be checked by a qualified electrician prior to use. Inspected and authenticated by Paul Crist of Crist Studios.
