  • Notes: Note: The Frederick J. Quinby Company's 1903, 48-volume 'Bibliomaniac Edition' of de Kock's Works was published in ten sets at a cost of $50,000 per full set. At the time the set was issued, some of the supply costs were published in American Printer and Lithographer and the New York Times. It was reported that the stock of Levant Morocco leather cost $54,000 and the gold clasps cost $25,000
  • Condition: Volume One: Very good condition, with tight leather and boards and no cracking. Parchment remains uncut. Each of the protective sheets between illuminations and illustrations show considerable foxing. Volume One box: Both exterior gold clasp hinges are missing. Cracking to leather spine and full separation of leather from box board. A loss on the spine measuring one centimeter is retained in a plastic bag. Silk interior is discolored and show some minor losses near the spine edge. Volume Two: Very good condition, with tight leather and boards and no evident cracking. Parchment remains uncut. Each of the protective sheets between illuminations and illustrations show light yellowing and discoloration and some foxing. Volume Two box: One gold clasp intact; other clasp missing top gold hinge. Five minute stains to top of box, possibly white paint. Evident cracking to leather spine at top and bottom, as well as box clasp panel. Silk interior is lightly discolored due to age but otherwise intact. Volume Three: Very good condition, with tight leather and boards and no evident cracking. Parchment remains uncut. Light spotting/foxing to first three parchment pages in this volume. Each of the protective sheets between illuminations and illustrations show light yellowing but otherwise in fine condition. Volume Three box: Both gold clasps intact and functioning. Cracking to leather spine evident. Silk interior is discolored. Rubbing of leather on interior corners. Volume Four: Very good condition, with tight leather and boards and no evident cracking. Parchment remains uncut. Each of the protective sheets between illuminations and illustrations show light yellowing/minor discoloration and some foxing. Volume Four box: Both gold clasps intact and functional. Cracking to leather spine and full separation of leather covered board from box board. Silk interior is discolored and shows some minor losses near the spine edge. Important note: All four Levant leather boxes in this set show wear, including light bumps and rubbing normally associated with a leather object over 100 years old. We have described this and all lots to the best of our ability.
