    Other notes:
Chinese contemporary painter Tang Zhigang is known for imaginary compositional settings often featuring children wearing military uniforms like the present work.

Tang was born in Kumming, Yunnan Province and during extended military service he studied oil painting at the People's Liberation Army Art Institute. Tang's early work focused on depictions of the Chinese Army. More recent series have explored social and political issues through images of children in adult settings giving the works a sense of surrealism while also suggesting communist propaganda.

Since 1996, Tang has been a professor at Yunnan Arts University and serves as President of the Yunnan Oil Painters Association. His work has been exhibited in Hong Kong, Beijing, Europe and the United States.
