1971, one of six examples made, walnut construction, the freestanding cradle hutch with a rectangular outset top over a double-door blanket cabinet secured with a shaped wooden latch, raised atop a central space suspending a slatted rocking cradle over a pull-out changing surface, the lower section fitted with an arrangement of six short drawers to one face and a double-door cabinet to the other, signed and dated to underside of pull-out changing table: Made in 1971 / Sam Maloof / Woodworker / [copyright symbol]

Notes: Joseph Anthony Gatto was a jewelry designer, art teacher and personal friend of Sam Maloof; he purchased the cabinet directly from the artist shortly before the birth of his daughter.
This lot is accompanied by letters from the Mingei International Museum and The Millard Sheets Gallery Foundation in reference to their respective exhibitions.


  • Condition: Overall good condition with scattered minor scuffs including abrasions to pull-out changing surface and cabinet faces consistent with contact with wooden latch
