  • Provenance: Provenance: Elizabeth Hall, Belvedere, CA; Estate of Billy L. Hudson, Monterey, CA; Property from an Important Texas Collector, acquired late 1990s
  • Notes: Note: The present work relates to a smaller version of this subject in the collection of The Oakland Museum: 'Point Richmond', 1929, signed lower right: Maurice Logan, oil on canvas, 15'' x 18'', illustrated in N. Boas, 'The Society of Six California Colorists, Berkeley, CA, 1988, p. 93. Artist Wayne Thiebaud speaks of The Oakland Museum's painting as quoted in ''The Society of Six: California Colorists'': ''One good example of Logan's using the brush to express certain things metaphorically -- movement accounting for form -- is 'Point Richmond'. He's got a really light blue bay -- or water form in the bay -- and then this group of houses, and he uses the brush now to sort of sweep in the bay. He follows the direction almost as the wake of a boat would be going in -- so it pushes up against the side and creates this marvelous kind of metaphor of movement. And Logan is very good about that very often because he is a very fast, rapid kind of painter''
