  • Notes: Seventh generation California abstract artist, Mary Chabre has been making paintings and sculpture for three decades. She makes vibrant, oil as well as polyurethane paintings that convey joy and energy. More recently she has been constructing painted and/or textured aluminum sculptures.

Having always wanted to major in art, she returned to UCI in 1996 where she earned another baccalaureate (summa cum laude) degree in Studio Art. Her most influential professor was Andrea Bowers who stressed the importance of communicating clearly the conceptual intent of one's work through its content and imagery. Mary was chosen to study at the Royal College of Art in London, and to participate in Advanced Painting with Allison Miller and Advanced Abstract Painting Critical Studies with Harmony Hammond at Anderson Ranch in Colorado.

Mary has had solo shows at UCI and at Britta Gallery in Newport Beach as well as several Open Studio shows. Group shows include Gallery 825, Los Angeles, C Gallery, Long Beach, OCCCA, Santa Ana, Shockboxx Gallery, Hermosa Beach, TAG Gallery, Los Angeles, Points of View, Newport Beach, UCI Alumni House, Irvine, Corona del Mar Library, Orange Coast College Gallery, Costa Mesa, The Royal College of Art, London and Anderson Ranch, Snowmass, CO.

The first BA degree she earned at USC was in English and Education. Putting that to good use she taught Art in three Orange County schools over the course of 21 years. In addition, she was owner of three art related commercial and residential Interior Design companies: Design Pak II, Mary Chabre Interiors and Antiques are Fun. From 2000 to the present, Mary has been active in Fellows of Contemporary Art and Contemporary Collectors of Orange County: groups that provide financial support for museum exhibitions and for emerging and under recognized artists.

Mary makes work in her studio on the Balboa peninsula. Her artwork is included in numerous private art collections throughout the U.S. She has also created many commissioned sculptures and paintings.
