  • Provenance:
William Karges Fine Art, Beverly Hills, CA
  • Notes:
This lot is listed on the "Mabel Alvarez Estate Collection website, a resource for studying the art and life of Mabel Alvarez" (https://mabelalvarez.com/all-known-artworks/1920s/performing-dog). It is noted here that this painting was "one of several pictures commissioned by Mrs. Samuel Goldwyn for "Little" Sam Goldwyn, Jr.'s room, but was left over."
  • Condition: Visual: Overall good appearance. A slight pressure mark within the blue pigment at the tail of the duck, 0.75" H x 0.375" W, with attendant minor surface abrasion, a few pinpoint sized paint losses, and a stretcher bar crack. A 0.5" H thin line of abrasion, center of the right side. Soft stretcher bar creases on left and right sides.

Blacklight: A 0.25" H x 0.5" W spot of touch-up in the lower right corner and a pea-sized area of touch-up near the center of the right edge, just above the abovementioned abrasion. There is a light florescence in the areas mentioned in the visual description, but it is uncertain if this is older touch-up.

    Frame: 21.125" H x 21.125" W x 3" D

Condition reports are offered as a courtesy and are typically published in Moran's catalogue or can be made available upon request. The absence of a condition report does not imply that an item is free from defects or restoration, nor does a reference to particular defects imply the absence of others. Buyers are responsible for determining to their own satisfaction the true nature and condition of any lot prior to bidding. Though buyers are not legally required to inspect lots prior to purchase, failure to do so may constitute a waiver of complaint that an item was not delivered in a condition equal to the existent condition at the auction.
