  • Notes:
Some of the artists in the Jones Collection were trained by, and found employment with, the People's Liberation Army and were, in fact, the creators of some of the better-known mass-market propaganda posters. Lu Juding is one such example. He trained at the Anhui Art Academy until 1961 and continued his studies in the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. He joined the Rail Police in 1973 and, in 1975, created the well-known poster Study Well and Grasp the Theory of the Dictatorship of the Proletariat.

Lu continued to paint in his spare time, and the present work represents his personal practice. It demonstrates his skill as a portraitist and his facility in rendering contrasting fabric patterns, as seen in the woman's dress.
  • Condition: Overall generally good appearance. A quarter-sized pressure mark in the upper portion of the extreme left edge and another, smaller, a few inches below it.

    Frame: 30" H x 25" W x 1.75" D

Condition reports are offered as a courtesy and are typically published in Moran's catalogue or can be made available upon request. The absence of a condition report does not imply that an item is free from defects or restoration, nor does a reference to particular defects imply the absence of others. Buyers are responsible for determining to their own satisfaction the true nature and condition of any lot prior to bidding. Though buyers are not legally required to inspect lots prior to purchase, failure to do so may constitute a waiver of complaint that an item was not delivered in a condition equal to the existent condition at the auction.
