In the distance is seen the North-Eastern Line to Scotland, thus shewing the commencement and complete development of that mighty railway system which ''with unparalleled rapidity, has induced the most wonderful effects, not only in this country but throughout the world''. In the foreground of the Picture the Villagers are supposed to be discussing the works of George Stephenson amongst others his invention of the ''Geordy'' Lamp, suggested to them by the perusal of a brief history of his life, recorded in one of the periodicals of the present times.

  • Condition: Visual: Generally good condition. A few handling creases scattered throughout, most notably in the upper and left center. A small scuff mark in the clouds upper center. Minor toning to the paper. The paper is loose, not mounted.
