Helen Hardin

(1943-1984, Santa Clara Pueblo)

"Changing Woman" from the "Woman Series," circa 1980

Etching and aquatint in colors on thick, grayish-green paper
Edition: 11/65
Signed with the artist's Tewa name and device in pencil in the lower margin: Tsa-Sah-Wee-Eh; with the blindstamps of the printers in the lower margin
Plate: 23.625" H x 17.75" W; Sheet: 30.375" H x 21.75" W

  • Notes: After Helen Hardin was born, she was given the name Tsa-Sah-Wee-Eh, which roughly translates in the Tewa language to "Little Standing Spruce." In this etching, "Changing Woman," Helen Hardin signs her name and includes a device of a stylized spruce tree as a reference to the translation of her birth name.
  • Condition: Overall good condition. Full sheet with deckled edges. The palest mat staining showing in the margins. The colors very slightly attenuated. Minor rippling to the paper, most likely attendant with printing multiple colors on such a large and thick sheet of paper. A dime-sized very pale stain near the center of the upper margin edge, not affecting the image. Hinged to the back mat in two places at the verso of the upper margin edge.

    Framed under glass: 33.25" H x 27.25" H x 1.5" D

Condition reports are offered as a courtesy and are typically published in Moran's catalogue or can be made available upon request. The absence of a condition report does not imply that an item is free from defects or restoration, nor does a reference to particular defects imply the absence of others. Buyers are responsible for determining to their own satisfaction the true nature and condition of any lot prior to bidding. Though buyers are not legally required to inspect lots prior to purchase, failure to do so may constitute a waiver of complaint that an item was not delivered in a condition equal to the existent condition at the auction.
