  • Notes:
Gaetano Pesce was an Italian architect, artist, and designer renowned for his avant-garde approach to design and innovative use of materials. His profound influence on contemporary design has inspired generations of creators since his involvement with the Radical Design movement in Italy during the 1960s. This approach sought to challenge design with unconventional materials and aesthetics.

Born in La Spezia, Italy, in 1939, Pesce studied architecture in Venice and traveled, worked, and lived throughout Europe. His contributions across various disciplines are countless. He once remarked, "Art is design, and design is art." Always pushing the boundaries with materials such as resin, polyurethane foam, and rubber, his work is vibrant, tactile, and playful.

Pesce had a prolific career, creating many iconic designs for brands such as Cassina, B&B Italia, and Vitra. While his roots were in Italy, he lived and worked in New York City later in life. The "Broadway Chair" produced by Bernini in the early 1990s, is crafted from polyurethane resin with bright marbled colors. The chair reflects his artistic philosophy of functional objects as works of art.

Pesce passed away at the age of 84 on April 3, 2024. His work has been featured in esteemed institutions, including The Museum of Modern Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, among others.
