  • Notes: American Artist Frederika B. Roeder has been painting since the 1970's. A fourth generation native Southern Californian, her work follows the paths of Minimalism and the Light and Space Movements while finding its roots in the natural environment.

    Born in Palo Alto, California and raised in La Canada Flintridge and San Clemente, California, Ms. Roeder was a competitive surfer and extreme skier at a young age. These experiences form the background for much of her life and art. Painting with knife and brush, she often uses materials influenced by the surfing and skiing industries: fluorescent sprays, iridescence, gels, epoxy resins, beaded glass gels, and inks.

    A graduate of the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Spanish, Ms. Roeder studied fine art at the University of California, Irvine, UCLA Los Angeles, Pasadena City College, Quinton Bemiller Studio in Los Angeles , CA, the Art Center of Design in Pasadena, and at Hunter College and the School of Visual Arts in New York City. While
    studying art in New York under the direction of John Baldessari, Ms. Roeder also worked at Vogue Magazine under then editor-in-chief, Diana Vreeland and photographer, Richard Avedon.     Her work has been included in exhibits with curators including Mat Gleason of Coagula, Juri Koll of ViCA, Mike Collins of Shockboxx, Kistine Shoemaker of Shoebox, Ron Nelson of Long Beach Museum of Art, Quinton Bemiller of NORCO Art Gallery, Dulce Stein of Neutra, and Alfio Borghese, Italy. Recent jurors of Exhibits include Nicholas Barlow of the Hammer Museum for 'Into the Light' at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art, Santa CA as well as Jim Morphesis, Tulsa Kinney, Michael Arata, for the Art Core Open, Los Angeles CA, Peter Mays for Kellogg Gallery at Cal Poly Pomona, and Wendy Posner, for Gallery 825, Los Angeles CA.

    Ms Roeder was an art participant in both the StarUP Fair, San Francisco CA and the StartUP Fair, Venice Art Walk, Venice CA with Director and Juror, Ray Beldner.
