  • Notes: Note: Chateau de Montresor is located in the village of Montresor in France's Loire Valley. The chateau began as a medieval castle and in the 15th century, a Renaissance mansion was built in the grounds. During his extended trip to Europe in the early 1920s, Payne was particularly taken by Chateau de Montresor. The artist made a model of the structure and produced at least two important oils including the present work and another example illustrated in the 1926 Stendahl Galleries catalogue, no. 1
  • Condition: Visual: Generally good condition. Blacklight: Two small spots of touch-up in the right center quadrant.
