- Provenance: Provenance: Property of a Private Altadena, CA Collector
- Notes: Note: The so-called ''open box'' hallmark on this piece dates it succinctly to the time of Van Erp's short lived partnership with Elizabeth Eleanor D'Arcy Gaw. Working together from early 1910 to the end of January 1911, Gaw's hand-drawn designs were realized in the round by Van Erp. The archetypal Van Erp copper and mica lamp appeared in the studio during this period. Eleven months after their collaboration began, Gaw and Van Erp parted ways for uncertain reasons. Their split was not amicable. After Gaw's departure from the studio, Van Erp had his assistants strike her name from the windmill stamp on finished pieces. Thus creating the slightly awkward hallmark with open space above Van Erp's name and an opening at the right side of the cartouche
- Condition: The document box: 4 x 10.5 x 14.5''; the hexagonal tray: 1.5 x 8"; the letter opener: 1 x 10.75". General marks and scratches to surface, commensurate with age and use. Blotter ends with some spotting and discoloration, likely due to condensation on plastic wrap.
