Byoung Yong Lee

(1948-2001)

"Coral and Teal," 1991

Acrylic on handmade paper
Signed and dated in pencil, upper left: Byoung Yong Lee 91; titled by repute
Sheet: 11.875" H x 17.625" W

  • Provenance: Other notes:
Byoung Yong Lee's work references traditional Korean emphasis on technique and draftsmanship with Western abstraction. Lee received his BFA in Fine Arts from Hong-Ik University, Seoul in 1973 and his MFA from the Pratt Institute, New York in 1986. Internationally exhibited, Lee has been the recipient of numerous prizes, medals and juried awards. The present work focuses a visual tension between two abstract spheres executed in bold shades of teal and coral, set against a scumbled ivory background.
  • Condition: Overall good appearance. The full sheet with deckled edges. Minor handling creases scattered occasionally in the outer edges. The extreme upper edge, at right, is slightly brittle. The sheet is hinged to an invisible matboard with two pieces of hinging tape from the verso of the upper sheet corners, and that matboard is affixed to another back mat.

    Unframed

Condition reports are offered as a courtesy and are typically published in Moran's catalogue or can be made available upon request. The absence of a condition report does not imply that an item is free from defects or restoration, nor does a reference to particular defects imply the absence of others. Buyers are responsible for determining to their own satisfaction the true nature and condition of any lot prior to bidding. Though buyers are not legally required to inspect lots prior to purchase, failure to do so may constitute a waiver of complaint that an item was not delivered in a condition equal to the existent condition at the auction.
