Attributed to Roelant Roghman (1627-1692 Dutch)

watercolor and graphite on board
sight size: 6.5'' H x 8.25'' W

  • Provenance: Provenance: Property from a Private Collection, Amsterdam
  • Notes: Note: Roghman was born in 1627 in Amsterdam and spent his entire life working within the city and countryside. His study of castles makes him unique among his 17th c Dutch contemporaries, as he chose to focus upon the man-made structures as the main subjects of his paintings rather than as footnotes to landscape compositions. His drawings and paintings depicting castles are rare, and are considered by scholars to be among his best achievements as an artist. This castle, which stood intact until 1821, was built in 1440 as a residence for Mr. Van Schaegen, and later rebuilt as depicted in Roghman's painting circa 1648-1650 under William 'The Bastard" of Holland's direction
  • Condition: Visual: Generally good condition. Toning throughout. Paper and pigment oxidized. Not examined out of frame. AS-IS. ALL SALES FINAL.
