  • Provenance: Estate of Hulett C. Merritt, Pasadena, CA; Private Collection, South Pasadena, CA, acquired by the present owner from the estate sale of the above,1956
  • Condition: Visual: Generally good condition. Stable craquelure throughout. A few scattered drips of surface grime in the lower center. Surafce dirt, discolored varnish, and residue throughout, would benefit from cleaning. A notation on the backing board that the painting was restored in 1949.

    An L-shaped area around the young woman's right eye that fluoresces under blacklight, possibly due to overpaint. An area of overpaint, approximately 5'' x 12'' on the figure's skirt lower left, possibly in the artist's hand. A vertical line fluoresces under blacklight, on the figure's skirt, most likley cause by a liquid dripping on the canvas, approximately 15'' long.
