The Chippendale-style mahogany slant-front desk with brass hardware profusely decorated with allover carved acanthus leaf and scrolled motifs, highlighted by two opposed dragon heads to the sides and the slant front featuring carved dragons centering a water basin, which opens to reveal four letter slots and a pullout drawer to each side, centering a lockable document compartment, all above three oxbow and machine dove tailed drawers, set on lion paw feet to front and square feet to back, and surmounted by a brass gallery rail
44.5" H x 36.5" W x 24" D

  • Condition: Overall good condition with scattered scuffs, scratches, nicks, shrinkage cracks, indentations, and separation at joints commensurate with age. More concentrated scratches and scuffing to desk surface, top surface, and legs. Some soiling to interiors of drawers and allover dust accumulation. The backside with more separation of the wood, scuffs, and scratches. Inner compartment locking mechanism seems ineffective. Top drawer lacking lock escutcheon plate. Front drop door lacking key.

Condition reports are offered as a courtesy and are typically published in Moran's catalogue or can be made available upon request. The absence of a condition report does not imply that an item is free from defects or restoration, nor does a reference to particular defects imply the absence of others. Buyers are responsible for determining to their own satisfaction the true nature and condition of any lot prior to bidding. Though buyers are not legally required to inspect lots prior to purchase, failure to do so may constitute a waiver of complaint that an item was not delivered in a condition equal to the existent condition at the auction.
