An Eastern Woodlands beaded bandolier bag

  • Provenance: Acquired circa 1876 by Calvin Collins (1799-1881); Private Collection, Claremont, CA; by descent in the family to the present owner
  • Notes: This bag was owned by Calvin Collins (1799-1881) of Gates, NY where he served as a town official. In 1876, at the end of the Indian Wars, Collins travelled out West to assist in writing peace treaties. According to Collins's family, the bag was given to him on that trip. Since Collins's death, it has remained in the family, handed down through generations
  • Condition: Overall good condition. Spots of fading to red wool. A .5'' x 2.5'' area of bead loss to strap. One fringe piece lacking bead and tassel. Fraying to muslin backing. Measurements include fringe.
