After Raphael

(1483-1520)

Portrait of Agnolo Doni

Oil on canvas
Unsigned
24.25" H x 17.25" W

  • Notes: Raphael's original rendition of this wealthy Florentine fabric merchant, Agnolo Doni (1474-1539), which was done in oil on panel circa 1504-1507, together with a pendant portrait of Doni's wife, Maddalena Strozzi (1489-1540), is part of the Uffizi Gallery collection in Florence, Italy.
  • Condition: Visual: Dust accumulation, grime, varnish discoloration and craquelure commensurate with age.
A 0.25" H x 0.5" W U-shaped split in the canvas near the upper right corner. An approximately 3" H x 2" W L-shaped repaired tear in the sky to the right of the figure's face, near the edge of the canvas, and another repaired tear, approximately 1.5" W, in the creases of the figure's sleeve at right. Stretcher bar creases along all sides. Slight frame abrasion and occasional small losses to the brittle canvas edges from framing nails.

Blacklight: Small touch-ups scattered throughout, some older and some newer, difficult to read under uneven varnish.

    Frame: 31.5" H x 24" W x 2" D

Condition reports are offered as a courtesy and are typically published in Moran's catalogue or can be made available upon request. The absence of a condition report does not imply that an item is free from defects or restoration, nor does a reference to particular defects imply the absence of others. Buyers are responsible for determining to their own satisfaction the true nature and condition of any lot prior to bidding. Though buyers are not legally required to inspect lots prior to purchase, failure to do so may constitute a waiver of complaint that an item was not delivered in a condition equal to the existent condition at the auction.
