Notes: The Czechoslovakian-born George Brooks emigrated to Canada in 1931, attending the École des beaux arts de Montréal studying sculpture and metalsmithing. He started his career in jewelry as an apprentice goldsmith with the prestigious Canadian company Henry Birks and Sons in 1948, later transferring his apprenticeship to avant-garde jeweler Georges Delrue who fit Brooks' Modernist aesthetic. After a move to Santa Barbara in 1962, Brooks produced his own unique designs until his retirement in 1991.
