A Robert Crowder Japanese style floor screen

96 H x 24.75 W

  • Notes: Note: California based artist Robert Crowder lived, travelled and taught English in Japan between 1934 and 1943. He wrote articles for ''Tourist'' magazine, composed poetry and studied ''tsuketate'' painting. All of these influences helped him establish his elegant, fluid painting style and develop a unique interpretation of his environment. Crowder was taken as a prisoner of war in 1941 and released on a prisoner exchange after 18 months. Upon his return to the United States he continued his artistic work and writings and in the late 1940s founded the design firm of Robert Crowder & Company.
  • Condition: Good condition overall. Colors vibrant. General light marks, scratches and very minor scattered losses to painted decoration. Some rubbing to bottom frame of each panel.
