A Michael Powolny ceramic figure of fall, Gmundner

  • Notes: Note: Michael Powolny was born in Judenburg, Austria in 1871. His father ran a small ceramics studio and trained his son in the art of pottery at an early age. He then continued his instruction at the Sommerhuber ceramics company. After further studies at the Kunstgewerbeschule, Vienna, Powolny became a professor at the school and went on to help form Vienna `Secession' in 1897. He founded the Wiener Keramik with Berthold Loffler in 1906, it then became the Gmundner Keramik six years later. Both Powolny and Loffler also designed pieces for the Wiener Werkstatte. Michael Powolny died in Vienna in 1954
  • Condition: Good overall condition. Colors vibrant. With a fine craquelure to surface overall, does not affect stability. General light marks and scratches, commensurate with age. With a small 1/4 in'' chipped loss to top of grape cluster.
