  • Notes: The diptych, "Pleasure Boat on a Summer Evening," is accompanied by a sheet that discusses the subjects, details of the landscape, etc., of the print, housed in a pocket attached to the frame's backing paper.

Nishiki-e also known as "brocade pictures" is a type of multi-colored woodcut printing during the influential period of Japanese genre art called, Ukiyo-e. Earlier prints were either black and white, hand colored, or only used around two to three color ink blocks, however, these processes were time-consuming and not as realistic looking because of the small use of color or none at all. Therefore, the Nishiki-e technique became popular because it made the complexities of printing during this time, easier and more efficient.
  • Condition: Each overall good condition. Specks of scattered foxing, primarily visible throughout the diptych. The "Yomogiu, No. 15," print with the colors slightly attenuated and minor handling creases scattered throughout. Not examined out of the frame.

    Frame of largest under glass: 25" H x 30.5" W x 1.5" D
