  • Provenance: Provenance: Property from the Estate of Carey Wilson, a Hollywood Television Writer-Producer; thence by descent to the present family members
  • Notes: Note: The firm of J. & W. Cary was established by John Cary (1754-1835), a noted engraver and map seller, and his brother William (1760-1825), an instrument maker. The Carys issued their first globes in 1791 and by the end of the 18th century had become London's most renowned globe, map and scientific instrument manufacturer. John Cary's two sons, George and John, continued the business until the middle of the 19th century when George F. Crutchley, another map seller, acquired the company
  • Condition: General marks, nicks, scratches and wear. With yellowing and some losses to surface varnish on globe. Globe previously restored. With radiating crack from impact spot beneath Tropic of Capricorn. With spotty areas of overpainted restoration. Spotty losses and scraping to surface around south pole. With what appear to be patched repairs to part of Cary label, as visible in catalogue photo. Brass meridian ring darkened. Horizon ring with nicks to outer edges. Wear to stand, particularly to feet. Compass apparently original. Glass bezel cracked and 1/3 glass missing. AS-IS. ALL SALES FINAL
