Second quarter 20th century, South Pasadena, CA, model M-174, a Baranger animated advertising display, featuring five diminutive men in overalls working on a giant silvered-dial wristwatch with tooled leather straps, raised on a gold-toned channeled plinth, together with original fitted shipping box, 13'' H x 15'' W x 12.25'' D, est: $3000/5000. Note: South Pasadena-based Baranger Studios designed, manufactured and repaired their whimsical mechanical displays from 1925-1959. The displays were rented to jewelers and watchmakers on a monthly basis, and Baranger continued renting their pieces until they closed their doors in 1977. Their workshop has been declared a historical landmark by South Pasadena's Cultural Heritage Commission. .

  • Notes: South Pasadena-based Baranger Studios designed, manufactured and repaired their whimsical mechanical displays from 1925-1959. The displays were rented to jewelers and watchmakers on a monthly basis, and Baranger continued renting their pieces until they closed their doors in 1977.   • Condition: Overall good condition; runs. General dust accumulation, marks, scratches, nicks and losses to paint and finishes commensurate with age. A few figures with minor spots of touch-up to paint. Plastic dial cover with an approximately .5'' x .125'' loss to one edge. Leather of straps somewhat dry; one with an approximately .75'' x .125'' loss to edge.
