A capriccio scene with four figures in the foreground
Oil on canvas likely laid to canvas
Unsigned
38.25" H x 28.5" W

  • Condition: Visual: Each overall good appearance. The First: Several quarter-sized and dime-sized touch-ups are visible with the naked eye, particularly in the lower half. Fine craquelure throughout and faint stretcher bar creases. A few pinhead-sized dots of paint loss at the center of the right edge. The Second: A 2" H x 2" W repair near the center right side, as well as several quarter-sized and dime-sized touch-ups, all visible with the naked eye. A few rice-sized and pinhead-sized dots of occasional pigment loss. Fine craquelure throughout and soft stretcher bar creases. As mentioned, the first work is laid to canvas, with original tacking edges; and the second work is likely laid to canvas.

Blacklight: The first has a very heavy varnish layer obscuring many of the touch-ups visible in natural light. There is a larger area of touch-up showing in the sky at the upper edge, approximately 3" H x 2" W, with other smaller accompanying touch-ups throughout this area. The second also has a thick varnish layer, possibly making it hard to read older touch-ups. However, there are a number of small areas of scattered touch-up, as well as larger areas within the sky in the upper left quadrant and upper center edge, the largest is an irregularly shaped area at the upper left edge, measuring approximately 7" H x 4.5" W.

    Frame of each: 42" H x 32" W x 2.5" D

Condition reports are offered as a courtesy and are typically published in Moran's catalogue or can be made available upon request. The absence of a condition report does not imply that an item is free from defects or restoration, nor does a reference to particular defects imply the absence of others. Buyers are responsible for determining to their own satisfaction the true nature and condition of any lot prior to bidding. Though buyers are not legally required to inspect lots prior to purchase, failure to do so may constitute a waiver of complaint that an item was not delivered in a condition equal to the existent condition at the auction.
