  • Notes: Raul Coronel was a Mexican sculptor and stoneware designer. Influenced by Mexican, Mesoamerican, African, and Greek Art, Coronel was a diverse potter and known for his abstract approach. His wide array of work varied from functional wheel-thrown pots and bottles, to tableware and hand-built planters, lamps, and wall screens, as well as stoneware clay wall murals for both domestic and business settings. Coronel attended the University of Hawaii in 1951 where he studied art and then studied at the College of Arts & Crafts in Oakland, CA, where he worked alongside Peter Voulkos and studied under Marguerite Wildenhain. He completed his B.A. at the California State University, Los Angeles, and would later continue his studies, receiving his M.F.A. at the University of Southern California. Coronel opened up a ceramic studio and store in Los Angeles on Melrose Avenue called "Raul Angulo Coronel, Stoneware Designs," later becoming "Stoneware Designs Incorporated." In the early 1980s, Coronel's company reformed as "Raul Coronel Incorporated" in Venice, California. He retired approximately 1994.

  • Condition: Overall good condition with dust accumulation, scattered minor scuffs, scratches, and inherent firing flaws commensurate with age. Scattered ceramic segments with minor chips to corners.

    Unframed; adhered to fabric-covered board.

Buyers are responsible for arranging their own shipping estimates and deliveries. Moran, in its sole discretion and as a courtesy to buyers, may arrange to have purchased lots packed, insured, and forwarded by a third-party shipper at the request, expense, and risk of the buyer. In circumstances where Moran arranges for such third-party services, Moran may apply an administration charge of 15% of that service fee. Moran assumes no responsibility for acts or omissions in such packing or shipping by other packers or carriers, even if recommended by Moran. Moran also assumes no responsibility for any damage to picture frames or to the glass therein.
