  • Exhibited: Los Angeles, CA.
  • Notes: Nancy Goodman Lawrence is a mixed media artist who received her B.A. in Art from UCLA. She began as a painter and after years of painting, became interested in using paper and collage in her work. For several years, she created three distinct bodies of work primarily using maps - portraits, the figure and a series of "concentric narratives" based on the circle. She had a solo show of her map works at Pierce College.

She continually explores new themes. One theme features the oval shape with acrylic and paper pieces that often squash flattened shapes together within the picture plane.

Her work was shown in the Jerusalem Biennales of 2015 and 2017. She worked with a collaborative team of 4 people to create a mural for the 2017 Biennale. The theme was Human Rights. Her piece, entitled, "Chibok Girls," comprised one panel of the mural and depicted the Nigerian schoolgirls who were kidnapped in 2014.

Lawrence has won many first place awards for her work. She had a recent show of her figurative collages at Castelli Art Space and a show of her oval work at Urbanite in Portland. She has shown in multiple galleries including Couturier, Barnsdall, bG, Arena 1, American Jewish University and SoLA. She is a member of Collage Artists of America, Women Painters West, Jewish Artists Initiative, Southern California Women's Caucus of Art and the L.A. Art Association. She participates in a monthly private art discussion group. She has been a guest artist for Collage Artists of America and Jewish Artists Initiative.

She was an elementary substitute teacher for Los Angeles Unified School District for many years, bringing art into the classroom whenever possible.

Her work was featured in the Kolaj Magazine Issue #14 as well as the books, Collage, Assemblage and Altered Art; Masters: Collage - Major Works by Leading Artists; Geo Graphic, A Book for Map Lovers; The America Journal of Nursing magazine and Gasher Journal, summer 2019 issue.

I am a mixed media artist with a degree in art from UCLA. I have recently created a series of work based on the oval shape. These are mixed media and acrylic pieces that often squash flattened shapes together within the picture plane. I like to play with movement and stillness as well as a subtle personal narrative that goes on beneath the surface.

My work was featured in the Kolaj Magazine Issue #14 as well as the books, Collage, Assemblage and Altered Art; Masters: Collage, Major Works by Leading Artists; Geo Graphic, A Book for Map Lovers; The America Journal of Nursing magazine and Gasher Journal, summer 2019 issue.
