  • Notes: Janai-Ami is an American artist b.1959 - who began painting in response to September Eleventh. She has no formal training as an artist, and while she mostly paints, she occasionally works in clay, assemblage and mixed mediums. She is best known for her contemporary florals, use of color, her aesthetic, and the development of a new painting technique she often refers to as "Sculptural Expressionism" which melds painting and sculpting, using the medium of paint to create her subject in 3-dimensions, rather than paint her subject. This is a technique still in its infancy.

Her work is almost always issue-themed, cerebral, and looks at cultural or societal attitudes or geopolitical events of significance. Her actual subject is often cleverly hidden because all of her work is done with an eye to the esthetics and she believes that art can make a statement or make a point while still being something that most people are able to live with in their environment - keeping them mindful while at the same time not disturbing their Chakra.

Her paintings are in many notable collections, including BELONGING - President Xi (Beijing, China), ALL RACES AND RELIGIONS - the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, SADAAM AND GOMORRAH - the Museum of History and Art in Ontario, SEPTEMBER ELEVENTH 2001 - Archives at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C., IN HONOR AND MEMORY OF JOHNNY MICHEAL SPANN, CIA - Private Collection/C.I.A. in Langley, Virginia, to name a few; and she has exhibited as part of many juried and non-juried shows both Stateside and internationally including at the National Art Museum in Tokyo, Japan; JUST BEFORE SUNRISE - the United States Embassy in Maputo, Africa; SHAIN'S WAY - the home of United States Ambassador Helen LaLime, Haiti; THE TREE OF LIFE SERIES -- the Don O'Melveny Gallery and Gallery 825 in Los Angeles, YIN and YANG -- Salander O'Reilly and Amsterdam Whitney in N.Y.C., and THE ENCHANTED FOREST -- the John F. Kennedy School of Government in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Her painting titled SEPTEMBER ELEVENTH 2001 was archived at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. and received mention in the Malibu Surfside News, the Canyon Crier, The Tolucan Times, The Beach Reporter, Wichita Falls Times Record News, Point Magazine. Her name was mentioned in November 2019 in both Artillery Magazine and Art in America as part of the 19th International Japan Exhibition where her work caught the eye of the Chinese delegation to the event and was acquired by President Xi.
Several paintings won awards, including that for "Color" at the Palm Springs Desert Museum in 2004 and the San Bernardino Museum, also in California. Other awards include Best in Show 2018 for her wildlife photography of birds.

Her painting "ONCE UPON A TIME" was part of a California Art Club event at which multiple jurors described it as a "modern day Masterpiece." It sold to an English/German couple for high five figures and resold for 6 figures shortly thereafter.

Her painting "The Enchanted Forest" was the first painting ever photographed in three dimensions by Art Scans and Industrial Light and Magic, using groundbreaking techniques developed exclusively to capture the three dimensional aspects of the work.

She resides in Southern California with her 3 rescue dogs.
