  • Provenance: The Residential Property of Thomas and Erika Girardi, Pasadena, CA
  • Notes: Basilius Besler (1561 - 1629), was a respected Nuremberg apothecary and botanist, best known for his monumental Hortus Eystettensis. The images he drew for engraving by others, are said to record the first botanical garden in Germany. It was that of Johann Konrad von Gemmingen, prince-bishop of Eichsttt in Bavaria and featured hundreds of plants von Gemmingen has amassed from around the world.
