A Japanese Sukehiro katana sword

With medallion-shaped bronze tsuba, blue cord wrapped ito on the menuki, a cast brass leaf decorated mekugi, and an armored seppa; sheathed in a leather wrapped wood saya with a blue, green, and ivory braided sageo
Blade: 28.50" L ; overall sword (in saya): 39.50" L

  • Notes: This maker developed the Toran-Midare pattern, which means large surging waves crashing to the shore. It was the first time such a pattern was seen before and became much sought after. One of the most beautiful hamon (the temper line) of the times. There after Tsuda Sukehiro became well known, as master of Toran-Midare hamon.
  • Condition: Overall good condition with scattered scuffs, light scratches, and oxidation commensurate with age. There is taupe paint on one side of the saya approximately 3.25" x 1.5". Sword has a cast brass leaf accented mekugi (secure peg) within the cord wrapping the menuki (grip). Surface grime on and discoloration to the sageo (hanging cord) commensurate with age and use.
