A hand-hammered sterling silver canape / pastry stand, Clemens Friedell

  • Notes: Note: Clemens Friedell was born in 1872 near New Orleans. At the age of three his parents took him to their native Austria, where he apprenticed with a silversmith in Vienna. Returning to America in 1892, he worked for a jeweler in San Antonia, and later, starting in 1901, for Gorham in Providence, RI. At Gorham he was an ornamentalist for the Martele line. Moving to California, he opened his own workshop in Pasadena in 1910. His clients included the many wealthy residents who wintered in Pasadena and for many years he designed the trophies for the Tournament of Roses and for numerous equstrian events. Friedell is renouwned for his floral and foliate designs
  • Condition: Condition: Good condition overall. Tarnishing, scratches, marks and rubbing commensurate with age and use. Minor dings and bending to silver rim of glass plate. Shallow scrapes to glass around central opening through which stem connects to base- not visible when the separate parts (stem, plate and foot) are assembled.
