- Notes: Note: Farr was an important early member of the art community in Pasadena beginning in the late 19th century and the present work is an outstanding example of her best known subject: the pepper tree. She painted ''. . . many versions of the lacy foliage and vivid red berries of the exotic pepper tree. . . . The pepper tree, or 'Peru', was an early import to Southern California from Peru and a fascination for tourists.'' (P.
