Bryant played for an impressive 20 years on the Los Angeles Lakers and led the team to win five championships in the NBA until he retired from the game in 2016. Kobe Bryant was also a part of the United States Men's basketball team for the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympic Games, both times winning the Olympic gold medal. Even outside the court, he was seen as a multifaceted individual, In 2018 he became the first African American to win an Oscar award for "Best Animated Short Film," for the film, "Dear Basketball." In addition, after his retirement from the NBA, he dedicated his time advocating for the importance of women's basketball, because of the passion and drive that his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna Bryant had for the sport. With the creation of the Mamba Sports Academy, a training facility, Kobe Bryant would go on to coach his daughter's middle-school basketball team, called Team Mamba, at the academy. Tragically, on January 26, 2020, Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna Bryant, and seven additional individuals, were traveling by helicopter to the girl's basketball game, when it crashed, killing all on board. The death of Kobe, Gianna, and all on board sent shock waves all throughout the world. Even after his death, Kobe Bryant's impressive career, athletic ability, love for his family, etc., still stand strong today.
