  • Notes: Sam Silberstein was born and grew up in Mexico City. He graduated from college in Mexico with a B.A. in Art and a focus in communication graphics. In the early 1980's Silberstein worked in advertising and set up an independent graphic design and photography studio. In addition, he was also actively painting and working in mixed media fine art. He moved to Los Angeles in the winter of 1983.

In 1984 he attended UCLA as a graduate student and in 1986 received a Master of Arts degree in art. His graduate work centered around documenting and interpreting Chicano graffiti. His graduate exhibit featured photography, video, graffiti-based clothing and type design.

From 1986 to 2008 I worked as an independent graphic designer, photographer and art director for ad agencies as well as corporate, non-profit and entertainment clients. Meanwhile I continued my painting and photography practice and experimented with illustration.

Between 2008 and 2013 I continued my photography practice, exhibited in group shows and completed a public art commission for a large mixed-use development in Oxnard, CA. As of 2017, I resumed my painting and mixed media practice. 2020 - 'Indistinct Chatter', Virtual Group Show, Los Angeles Art Association
