Percy Gray

1869-1952

Artist Percy Gray was born in San Francisco in 1869 to a family boasting an impressive art legacy. Following in the footsteps of his 12 artist forebears, Gray showed an early talent for oil painting. Indeed, landscape collectors sought Percy Gray’s prints by the time he was just 16 years old. After completing his studies at the San Francisco School of Design, Gray relocated to New York where he headed the New York Journal’s art department. In 1906, Gray returned to San Francisco to further his art career at the Examiner until 1920.

Throughout this time, Gray developed his skills in watercolors, having developed an allergy to oil paints. Landscape prints by Percy Gray masterfully capture Northern California’s coasts and the Southwest’s deserts. Today, aficionados prize early Percy Gray paintings for sale for their canny depictions of regional flora. Find your own atmospheric landscape paintings for sale online at Invaluable.
