Los Angeles, CA — John Moran Auctioneers will present their final Traditional Collector sale of the year on Wednesday, December 11th, 2024, at 12:00pm PDT. The auction, having over 300 lots, is filled with beautiful furniture, fine art, rugs, lighting, and sophisticated table settings. Highlights include a Tiffany & Co. mixed metal and sterling pitcher, an 18th century Chinese flambé glazed moon flask vase, and a large collection of Asian screens. Fine art includes works by Thierry Poncelet, Guillaume Seignac, Eugeny Lanceray, Albrecht Durer, Edmund Pick-Morino, and Louis Alexandre Bouche.
Leading the sale is an 1875 Tiffany & Co. mixed metal pitcher. This antique comes with Tiffany archive research and has an estimate of $10,000-15,000. Other highlights in the nearly 30 lots of silver are pieces by Georg Jensen such as a 108-piece “Acorn” sterling silver flatware service, estimated $5,000-7,000, and a pair of sterling silver grape candlesticks based on his 1918 design, valued at $3,500-4,500. A pair of George IV sterling silver candelabra and pair of candlesticks by John & Thomas Settle will make their way to the block with a $2,000-3,000 estimate.
There are beautiful Chinese vases, like a 13” flambé glazed moon flask vase from the 18th century, estimated $15,000-20,000, with provenance including from the Millicent A. Rogers Collection. A pair of Chinese flambé porcelain fanghu vases from the Qianlong Period (1736-1795), valued at $6,000-8,000, and a Chinese celadon porcelain vase, also from the Qianlong Period, with an estimate of $5,000-7,000 will also be presented.
Among the artists featured in this sale are Thierry Poncelet, Guillaume Seignac, Claes Jansz van der Willigen, and Eugeny Lanceray. The Belgian painter, Thierry Poncelet (b. 1946) is most known for his humorous portraits that replace human heads with animal ones. His work, “Dalmation in a suit” will be offered with a $7,000-9,000 estimate alongside a capsule collection of dog portraits by various artists. Other noteworthy artworks include “Portrait of a woman,” by the French painter, Guillaume Seignac (1870-1929), estimated at $3,000-5,000, and from the Dutch painter, Claes Jansz van der Willigen (1630-1676), “The Burning of Troy,” 1662, estimated $2,000-4,000. Representing the selection of sculptures, a patinated bronze by the 19th century Russian sculptor, Eugeny Lanceray (also known as Evgeny or Eugene Lanceray). Lanceray (1848-1886) created many models of daily life, hunting scenes, various people, and Cossacks as seen in “Cossack rider,” 1873, valued at $5,000-7,000.
For those interested in the traditional Asian aesthetic for the home, the 27-lot variety of gorgeous Asian screens is a must-see! Standout pieces include a pair of Japanese six-panel flower, bird, and pond screens, estimated $3,000-5,000, and a pair of Japanese six-panel narrative screens depicting scenes from The Tales of Heike, Edo period, with an estimate of $1,500-2,500.
Rounding out the sale, a palace-sized Egyptian rug, estimated $8,000-12,000, a Chinese Langyao red glazed guanyin zun vase from the Kangxi Period (1662-1722) that was converted into a lamp, estimated $2,000-3,000, and a charming Chinese porcelain bat and peach-form porcelain brush rest, valued at $800-1,200. There will also be a 1974 Porsche 911/912 Targa Carrera, estimated $8,000-10,000, and a 2006 Mercedes-Benz E350 with an estimate of $5,000-7,000.
