Los Angeles, CA— June continues to be a busy month at Moran’s. On June 25th, 2024, at 10:00am PDT, John Moran Auctioneers will be presenting ReDesigned, their third auction this month! Featuring more than 300 lots, this sale has an exciting and eclectic collection of styles and genres from Mid-Century, Postmodern, Hollywood Glamor, Hollywood Regency, 70’s Chic Revival, and Industrial—an interior designer’s dream! Offerings include a fine collection of art glass, multiples, oil paintings and sculptures. Highlighted artists are Eyvind Earle, Romain (Erté) de Tirtoff, Sam Francis, LeRoy Neiman, Joan Miro, Tarmo Pasto, and Kelly “Risk” Graval. Esteemed designers like Christian Liaigre, Philippe Starck, Hans Wegner, Isamu Noguchi, and Tobia Scarpa are featured. Rounding out this must-see auction is a Wurlitzer “Bubble” jukebox and lot 1317, Chris Hemsworth’s People’s Choice Award!
Definitely the standout of the sale is the Wurlitzer model 1015 “Bubbler” 78 rpm jukebox. Manufactured by The Randolph Wurlitzer Company and designed in 1946 by Paul Fuller, this jukebox, lot 1180, has 24 playable selections for 78 rpm vinyl records and features upper bubble tubes and opposed color wheel tubes. Standing at 59” H, this blast from the past comes with an estimate of $6,000-8,000.
Among the eye-catching selection is an impressive variety of fine art. Leading the category, a work by the Californian artist, Bjorn Rye (1942-1998). An example of his landscapes, for which he is most known, is lot 1063, River Scene, estimated $3,000-5,000. Other works include Curt Walter’s “Beach at Puerto Vallarta”, lot 1210, valued at $2,000-3,000, “The Lavendar Church” by Eyvind Earle, lot 1028, estimated $1,000-2,000, and with a $1,000-2,000 estimate, lot 1179, a striking work by Kelly “RISK” Graval titled, “Measure Up”—comprised of rulers, neon lights, and spray paint.
This sale is filled with interesting and unique decorative items that will liven up any space—such as a “Haas Monster” porcelain incense burner (the smoke comes out of the monster’s horns!) by the Haas Brothers, lot 1076, estimated $1,000-2,000. There will also be a lovely midcentury Japanese ikebana basket by Kadota Niko, lot 1134, valued at $700-900, a Kathryn McCoy large quartz bowl, lot 1072, estimated $700-900, and lot 1144 is a contemporary blue “Bubble” glass vase by Arik Levy, having a $500-700 estimate.
Collectors will be drawn in by the fine and decorative art but are sure to stay for the furniture! A favorite is the stylish Andrew Martin “Barbarossa” armchair, lot 1099. Estimated $1,000-2,000, the chromed metal geometric lounge chair comes with brown leather back and seat cushions. Need more seating? Go with lot 1215, the “RAYN” sectional sofa by Philippe Starck for Dedon. Designed in 2015, and estimated $700-900, this sofa has white powder coated metal for the frame, armrests, and feet, features pale ecru vinyl ribbons woven in a horizontal pattern with light blue fabric seat and back cushions, and even comes with seven throw pillows! There will also be a midcentury “Andre” coffee table for Knoll by Afra & Tobia Scarpa, lot 1083, estimated $600-800.
