MONROVIA, CA – Moran’s August 25th Studio Fine Art auction was filled with works of art from across the globe. Studio Fine Art continues to be the destination to find works by notable artists at appealing price points, and Sunday’s sale was no exception. Established and novice collectors alike found tempting options in the over 200 lots on offer.
Moran’s Studio Fine Art auction was dotted with prints from masters of the medium. A stunning woodcut by Japanese artist Joichi Hoshi, Trunk and Branches, brought $3,437. A grayscale Kiyoshi Saito print with a pop of colorful fruit inspired a bidding war when it hit the block, selling for $1,062. A lively Alexander Calder print, Cinq Boules Et Deux Serpents, soared above its $600-800 estimate to bring $1,250.

Views of California continue to appeal to collectors. A bridge in a landscape was the inspiration for Carmel Valley artist Gottardo Piazzoni and brought $3,750 at the block. Karl Eugen Neuhaus’ farmscape featuring an oak tree-dotted hillside with outbuildings brought $3,437 at the block. A peaceful desert scene from Sam Hyde Harris caused a bidding war when it hit the block; One buyer took the prize for $2,812.

Works from international artists featured prominently in the auction as well. An exquisite portrait from artist Jean-Pierre Capron of a French woman brought $1,500. A peaceful coastal landscape from French artist Claude Emile Schuffenecker brought $1,750 at the block. A mischievous dog from Baroness Emmuska Orczy stole the hearts of the buyers and brought $2,812.
