California & American Art Auctions

Director: Jeff Moran

John Moran Auctioneers is a nationally renowned market leader and trendsetter in sales of California and American art. We annually offer more works of California Impressionism, California Style watercolors, and Western art than any other auction house. Our bi-annual fine art auctions feature carefully selected artworks valued from a few thousand to several hundred thousand dollars, or more. Moran’s was the first auction house to sell a California Impressionist painting for a price in excess of one million dollars when Guy Rose’s “Early Morning Summertime” realized 1.2 million at our June, 2001 auction.

Building on decades of success, John Moran Auctioneers continues to set and surpass auction records for the most important California Impressionists, including Granville Redmond, William Wendt, Maurice Braun, Paul Lauritz, Elmer Wachtel, Joe Duncan Gleason, Edgar Payne, Hanson Puthuff, and Joseph Kleitsch. We also handle top Western artists such as Nicolai Fechin, Oscar Edmund Berninghaus and Gustave Baumann, and Regionalist works by Millard Sheets, Emil Kosa Jr., and Phil Dike among many others

Estate Auctions

Director: Roland Rynkiewicz

John Moran Auctioneers conducts seven to eight Estate Auctions per year featuring the best selections from estates and private collections both large and small. These sales typically offer 200 or more lots of fine European and American art works, and superlative antiques and decorative arts: silver, bronzes, ceramics, furniture, clocks, metalware, glass, Oriental rugs, Native American artifacts, and more.

We feature Arts and Crafts items from makers such as Van Briggle, Rookwood, Gustav Stickley and Dirk van Erp; Art Nouveau and Art Deco including Lalique, Daum and Louis Comfort Tiffany; and mid-20th century design by luminaries such as Otto Natzler, Tapio Wirkkala, Seguso, Walter Lamb and Charles and Ray Eames. With one of the top markets for silver, we regularly offer pieces from Georg Jensen, Tiffany, Gorham, Wallace and many others, as well as older British, Continental, and Russian pieces.
